You can get a laptop with a DVD drive for the same price as those little portable things. Get a second battery if you need 5 hours play.

i've got a panasonic dvd LA95. brilliant player. very light. only about 2 1/1 hours battery though, so you'll need a spare. got mine about a year ago at London Camera Exchange in Portsmouth for about £800. Must be cheaper now. Could always try eBay if you're feeling brave.

I've got a Panasonic LA95 - excellent piece of kit. I had a Sony FX1 before and the Panasonic just blows it away. It also plays MP3's but rather annoyingly doesn't display what it is. Another useful feature is that it will take a line input, so you can play back from a digital camera onto it.

I use mine on the train to work with some Bose noise cancelling headphones - fantastic combination !

I've got a laptop too which is great for DVD's, but as you point out it's considerably heavier.

If you do buy an LA95 I can lend you a disk to edit the firmware to multi-region

Before you buy try

www.priceguideuk.com

www.kelkoo.com

I saved hundreds on Sony TV. By the way, I'd go for a laptop anyday, Apple Titanium 17" rocks.

It's OK until you try an LA95 - there's no going back once you've tried it

£650 is a good price
