Groom's speech
#3
Have done both Groom and now Best Mans
Neither was too bad (after a bottle of red )
Grooms is easier - you're not expected to be funny. Stand up thank people for coming. Say the bridesmaids look nice and you think your wife is gorgeous. Hand out presents if you're doing that and sit down again - wait for your character to be decimated by your best mate.

When you are about to stand up to do the speech you start with..."well that not the first time today i,ve got off a warm seat with a piece of paper in my hand..." should raise a laugh or two

went through the same thing a couple of years ago checked out all the web sites (all of them ****e by the way).
Dont make up silly stories that arent true the funniest stories are always the truest.
Say what you feel you want to say even if it is a bit soppy
No one is expecting you to suddenly turn into a combination of David Niven and Eddie Izzard overnight.
I tried to put in something for everyone who was present and turned it into a kind of story so it was easy to memorise, and if you can just put brief notes and dont just read it like a script.
One last tip told me by some one who does alot of speaking is to run it through with someone who will be there on the day and look towards them as you deliver the speech then they can help prompting.
oh and one more tip i sneaked off to my hotel bedroom and took a couple of quick drags off a very useful herbal!!! cigarette i had prepared earlier just to calm me down as i have a habit of speaking far to quickly when i am nervous NO one was the wiser.
