If the worst happens.........

I am on a sticky wicket at the moment..........I am thinking what I should do if the worst happens
Do I make myself immediately available for any allbeit unlikely job interviews or get straight down to Tescos and try and get a job going
beep beep....do ya want any cashback?
I can't afford to have no income and last time I got the boot signing on was one of the worst things....some of the people were generally looking for work....others were those 'appear on Kilroy types'

Yes the minimum they can get away with is one weeks pay per year of service. I am not entirely sure about this but I also think they can get away with not paying your current weekly pay but giving you some government decided minimum (£260 a week rings a bell?).
I am certian someone on here can tell you exactly how much you are entitled to.

thing is my gross salary per month is almost double my basic due to shift allowances, unsociable hours etc etc so I'd be hit hard if it's based on basic

Just keep your head down and your fingers crossed. If you do have to bite the bullet then you can at least get some temp wrk through an agency while you look around.
It might be worth posting your CV onto a few online job sites now and seeing what comes up.
Mail me if you want some site addresses. I would reccomend CV Poster.com as my wife works for them and my mate owns it.
Good luck.

I had to work in the bakery at Sainsbury's the last time and while it was a 'no brainer' job it was pretty soul destoying and working the whole day for what you've earned in an hours is crap
a lot of the guys who got the push last time are looking abroad now as have had no joy here
someone I know is Sun qualified up to his eyeballs and still hasn't got a job yet and been 4 months now
wonder what the IT recruitment guys are doing these days, guess it must be hard for them especially

get yourself some mortgage cover now it's not expensive and hope you stay in the job for the 3 month probationary period of the cover. you can get it online from quite a few places.
search on google ... here's an example http://www.income-protection-insurance-uk.mquk.co.uk/

If you are on income support the govt will pay the interest on your mortgage after 39 weeks.
You employer is not obliged to give you anything more than the lesser of £250.00 or 1 weeks pay for each year you have been there.
Get some insurance as above and keep your fingers crossed for 3 months
