Question

Need a savings account (pref on-line) for £0 to about £10K. Do need reasonable access & will be paid into by Standing order each month.

Best rate I can find at the mo is Cahoot with 3.9% gross

Anyone know of a better one ?

4% Gross from Northern Rock Tracker Online or same from Halifax Websaver - both internet banking, no strings as far as I know.

I think to get better than those you will need to be bound by certain restrictions on number of withdrawals, minimum balance etc.

By tracker - it means the rate is guaranteed to be within a specified amount of the Bank of Engaland base rate which is a good thing as far as I can tell - means they can't shaft you if interest rates start going back up again.

Dont forget though that 1% on £1000 is only £10.If you ask me its not just the rate that matters but service too.

Ive got a ING account. It transfers to one dedicated account. IE Lloyds TSB to ING and back again.
Ive never had a problem with them and find them competative.

Good luck.

Transfer to your linked account -takes 3 days for the amount to clear, so pay your bill from your linked account and just make sure you transfer the money 3 working days beforehand....easy!

I paid £100 a month into a halifax savings account last year by standing order....got 4.5% gross.
Only worked out at £23.55 for 12 months interest.

All this searching around for an extra 0.5%,unless you have tens of thousands is it worth it?

Thanks Chaps...but

Goldfish are tiered...
£0 - £4,999 3.40 3.45
£5,000 - £9,999 3.55 3.61
£10,000 - £24,999 3.80 3.87
£25,000 - £50,000 4.00 4.07

Northern rock - not too keen on trackers but Halifax looks good.
Anymore ?
Deano
