Mine is spaced wrong: A1AB C instead of A1 ABC as is should be.
Had loads of hassle when it was mispaced on the back
- now its just on the front and legally spaced on the back and no problems or pullage in 7 months.
Have a few sets of plates in the boot also: A1 AB.C (its not a dot its dirt, honest), A1 AB C etc and a 'legal' one too.
Depends if you can put up with the hassle- personally doesnt bother me paying the odd £30 fine here and there and the odd pink slip, its non endorsable, and they arent gonna take the plate away despite the threat that they *can*- its never happened.
As i said- no problems in the last 7 months, and its on a bmw, so i thought i would be a prime target for pulling.

I was stopped a few years back, BEFORE they went all lairy with the regs. In fact I was pulled off a busy M6 to have my plate inspected.
My crime ? - One digit was 1.2 cms too far to the right. Correct
fonts and size etc.
How do I know ? - Because the copper got a tape measure out on
the hard shoulder as juggernauts rolled by.
The result ? - Had to have legal plates made up. No fine
The result 2?- I wrote to the local Chief Constable to complain
about the safety implications involved for such a stupidly trivial
thing. No reply but it really pisses me off now when I see people taking ridiculous liberties on plates and the Police don't stop them.

They will do that now- pull out a tape measure and note down the spacing irregularities...
Keep a tape measure of your own -and measure the T5 or whatever it is plates when pulled....i betcha they arent all legal to the letter of the law.......

Freak,
That is a sad admission, you are so keen to have your initials on your plate you will get fined for it and you keep variations on it in the boot !
Its to identify the car, not you and the situation is that it looks crap anyway and cheapens the car.

Following on from above:-
Keep it legal or buy a cherished plate that doesn't need 'altering'
It just gives them an excuse to stop you / makes you stand out for the wrong reason.
I saw a plate today which was * 007 * but really *00 7X.
To me that is, sorry, stupid.
I'll get me coat

Used to get grumped at for my reggie, only 5 digits and all spaced using small spaces, but I now just run a "modified" front and a standard rear. 1 year on no problems yet.

Those of you that have personal plates and have them spaced "interestingly" have you had any problems with them eg the Police etc, or what have you done if you've been stopped?
Thinking of getting a personal plate which will need 1 of the numbers moved a little
Thoughts/real examples?
Cheers
Neil
