any boat owners?

I'm fed up with losing money on cars, so im thinking of losing it on boats to make a nice change
Question is roughly how much a year for a berth at a decent marina on the south coast (maybe solent, or chichester)??
(thinking of between 38 and 42' boat)

Never owned one that size, but annual berths around London seem to be around £200 per metre, + electricity charges etc. Which means 40~feet = ~£2500 or so....
I would think it'd be much the same on the Solent/Cowes etc.
I've never done that - just the odd few overnighters in various marinas on East coast.

The one thing that's probably more expensive than cars...
I work in Cowes, and live not too far away. £2500 is a bit conservative for a years berthing in Cowes. 2 words sum that up - Cowes Week!!
One way to get around this is to buy into one of the few marina developments on the South coast, where you buy a property, and it comes with a leasehold on a marina berth. Be careful though, as this may not be all it seems.
Don't forget that boats need insuring too, and as for the servicing costs...
(I'm not a boat owner, but my partner is - I'm going to stick to cars for now!)

Says it costs £200 per metre for a year. BTW, this is between Cowes and Newport, in the middle of nowhere really!

My father in law had a speedboat, Fletcher Black Max with a large outboard, even a small speedboat costs wads to run, the fuel consumption had to be seem to be beleived !

I run an old Shetland 5.69 metre cruiser which I use for sea fishing. If you think a Scoob is expensive to run then you will get a big shock. The berthing figures given are about right-maybe a bit cheaper depending where you park it, the fuel consumption is high, even with a 4 stroke motor.
But it is great fun and I do love my fishing-never a problem to find a boat partner.
