I've always wanted to know why

None near me, but I know a few Asian people and they all run their own businesses. I think it's that Asian families have a different work ethic to us Europeans and are encouraged to be independent.
They also tend to be ruthless in business which makes them successful.

I wouldnt call it racist, its a statement of fact and not deflamatory, in fact fairly complimentary regarding the work ethic, it seems we are not able to make valid observations about any ethnic minorities for fear of the PC brigade latching on and telling us off, dont think any of the Asian people I know would object to this thread, keep it positive and constructive !

its the same with late night grocers, offies, and video shops!!!
they found a niche, where noone wants to work unsociable hours, so, as they done beer it up, and go out clubbing, it prob doesnt bother them working late.
not to mention the "unlicensed" minicabs in london, same theory there!!!

Its usually a franchise, so someone is raking it in, whether its the poor soul that has to to the late shift is another matter. It must be the 'one day all this will be yours' carrot that motivates dealing with pissed locals and stoned students at 2am

yeah but its not offensive in its literal meaning...
didn't that bloke in "love thy neighbour" use it??
- god, in danger of giving my age away here.
i didnt mean it to be offensive, just to reinforce my point, which i've forgotten.
i do believe however that the majority of british people, like to be indoors before 8 and onto cocoa by 10. instaed of serving pizzas, petrol, or cabernet savignon(sp) - myself included!!
i'll take back the honky bit, but leave *astards..... LOL

rik1471, are you actually offended by it or do think you should be llowed to be offended on the basis that it's the white version of ******, paki etc?
Personally, I'm white and don't find it in the least bit offensive.

Objectification works against the disempowered precisely because they are disempowered. The process simply doesn't work in reverse, or at least, making it work is a lot tougher than one might think.
So calling someone Honky isnt in the same league! Anyway stop prattling on about racism - I've seen none here!
My local Optimax is 40" away, and run by Asians. They work more than they whinge and it seems to fit in well with the extended family unit setup they have.
I didnt take over my Dad's oil business cos UK kids leave home asap and want their own house/space and bigger money in media/IT/law whatever.
All generally speaking of course, but I had thought the same question myself!

I think Save went bust.
They were the robbing fukcers that put petrol up by 20p per litre in Leeds at the time of the shortages.
Serves them right.
As for asians owning businesses, it's what they do well. They're generally very hard working people and they use their network to make their businesses work.
