A bit of background....I work in IT which is ****ed in my opinion as a boom industry....the flash cash seems all to have dried up as far as I can see and wages are settling down

I've stuck it out because of the money.....now the money is no longer there I am asking what is the point of being stuck in a job you basically find a bore just for the money

I've always like practical stuff and fancy having a trade that is useful and in demand

I am in the Surrey area so basically where can you retrain as an electrician?

Every school leaver is training as a plumber now cause of the potential money so common sense says that in a few years time there will be loads of plumbers and not as much money in it!

Local colleges often do courses in stuff like that. Best to speak to one of them IMO. Guess you will be far too old to do a modern appreticeship!!!!!

You could start by doing a 2 year City & Guilds 236 Electrical installation course most collages do it. I did my first year full time at Wolverhampton’s Wulfrun College when I was 16, at the end of my first year as well as my C&G exams I did a practical assessment called the AM1 and got a job at an electrical contracting company as a trainee. I did my second year part time 1 day a week, when I finished the City & Guilds I did couple of years on site then did my final practical assessment the AM2. All together it took about 4 years but you could probably do it quicker. When was 22 I took a job at the MEB (Midlands Electricity) and im retraining as a H.V Mains Cable Jointer im just finishing my 2nd year of an Electricity supply course.
