Don't have to go that far for nice bits of wales. Just across the border on the M4 (roughly between Chepstow in the SE, Ross on Wye in the Northeast, Brecon NW and Newport are the Wye and Usk valleys, Brecon Beacons,Black Mountains, Llanthony priory and valley (Evo magazine uses this road a lot). Loads of walking. good pubs, hotels etc do a google search for Monmouthshire/Gwent.
Far less crusties with mangy dogs on strings and wacked out surf dudes (man ) than Cornwall and about 3-4 hours less driving. Pembrokeshire is great as well all around St Davids and the Pembroke Coast walk. Lots of speed cameras especially out west on the M and A roads

I suggest Tenby. Nicest place in wales. Pubs are really nice, plenty of places to stay and all reasonably priced. The scenery is cool, nice beach and good views from the cliffs.
If you want something more than a chilling weekend, the local cacravan parks have good entertainment and provide good facilities.
Hope that helps.

What sort of break is it that you are looking for? Snowdoinia is a beautiful place to relax in, lots of nice scenery and if the weather is good then that is a bonus, but welsh weather is not normally very predictable. lol. I'd still stick to somewhere down south.

About 20 miles North West of Swansea is the Gower Peninsula which has some of the best coastlines in the UK. Check here for some more info:

I agree with Gaz Jones, Llandudno is a nice place to go. Good amusements, if that's your thing. Easy to find a place to stay at the moment too.
By the way, have I been talkng to myself on here these last few days??? lol.

OK, I'll research Tenby and Bedgellert - are they in south wales?
I'm considering leaving the motor at home and getting the train - else I'll just get carried away with the long, winding roads...
LOL - won't be getting tanked up on this occassion - just a w.end away with other half
