I'm planning to go to Wales for a weekend break with the other half, jusy wondering about any recommendations...where? what to do? where to stay? etc...
Gonna be driving up there from London, so don't wanna drive too far... PS - NOT Swansea! |
Pembrokeshire's nice. Tenby's full of pubs and guest houses and the prices are pretty good and you'll always find a room. Been there a few times and it's always been good.

Are there any nice places to go for walks in Pembrokshire? Thanks for the reply. |
Sure, the coast is awesome. Lots of rocks, cliffs and crashing waves. The Preseli Mountains are about 15mins by car to the north too.

No where its wales go to cornwall:D
|
Ive got loads of info and knowledge on West Wales. Mail me what require.

Don't have to go that far for nice bits of wales. Just across the border on the M4 (roughly between Chepstow in the SE, Ross on Wye in the Northeast, Brecon NW and Newport are the Wye and Usk valleys, Brecon Beacons,Black Mountains, Llanthony priory and valley (Evo magazine uses this road a lot). Loads of walking. good pubs, hotels etc do a google search for Monmouthshire/Gwent.
Far less crusties with mangy dogs on strings and wacked out surf dudes (man ) than Cornwall and about 3-4 hours less driving. Pembrokeshire is great as well all around St Davids and the Pembroke Coast walk. Lots of speed cameras especially out west on the M and A roads |
How far is Pembrokeshire from the M4?
|
From the end of the M4 about 40 mins

Brecon/Black moutains..Great starting point.

What about the Network Q Rally in november :D

I suggest Tenby. Nicest place in wales. Pubs are really nice, plenty of places to stay and all reasonably priced. The scenery is cool, nice beach and good views from the cliffs.
If you want something more than a chilling weekend, the local cacravan parks have good entertainment and provide good facilities. Hope that helps. |
We always used to have a wicked time around Bedgellert (spelling??)
Camp up there and get tanked up :) AWESOME!! Andy |

Try this.Superb location overlooking Bay. Chip. |
What sort of break is it that you are looking for? Snowdoinia is a beautiful place to relax in, lots of nice scenery and if the weather is good then that is a bonus, but welsh weather is not normally very predictable. lol. I'd still stick to somewhere down south.

About 20 miles North West of Swansea is the Gower Peninsula which has some of the best coastlines in the UK. Check here for some more info:

I agree with Gaz Jones, Llandudno is a nice place to go. Good amusements, if that's your thing. Easy to find a place to stay at the moment too.
By the way, have I been talkng to myself on here these last few days??? lol. [Edited by Hysteria1983 - 4/14/2003 8:07:18 PM] |
OK, I'll research Tenby and Bedgellert - are they in south wales?
I'm considering leaving the motor at home and getting the train - else I'll just get carried away with the long, winding roads... LOL - won't be getting tanked up on this occassion :( - just a w.end away with other half ;) [Edited by akshay67 - 4/10/2003 11:20:30 PM] |
