Internet sites that supply show 'plates will often sell you numberplates without seeing any paperwork. They can do this because they state the 'plates are for show use and not road legal. The last set I ordered from the 'net were ordered after the regulations came in, and I wasn't asked for any documents. The 'plates themselves though, even though they are of the correct size, spacing and font, do not have the postcode of the supplier on, so as far as I know, are not totally legal.

Is this the point where I tell you I can get plates made to any Word font/ size etc for £3 each. (Trade )
However, all this V5 rubbish is just another pain for law abiding motorists. Are you telling me that a criminal organisation wont be able to get false plates made somewhere and as a result will stop nicking cars?
Dont make me laugh!

Ello all! With this new DVLA regulation for garages to have to ask for a V5 and driving licence when you buy normal plates, is possible to purchase number plates anywhere on the net without having to provide your certificates? Just curious as to how strict this is!
(Btw, this is Mr Foxy, not me! I do have a car now though, can't drive it yet tho. Whoops. )

Used them loads both before and after the new regs.
they are in ireland so no docs required.
As they are in ireland and not in england/wales (as the law states plates made in england and wales after 1st sept last yr must have makers name/postcode on the bottom) they are legal- conform to the relevant BS standards also.
No V5 crap required either- and nice and cheap- makes halfords £20 per plate look very very pricey...
