Looking to go to France in August will be takng the car - but don't want any longer than 4-6 hrs driving in France...

We are going to get a gite - for 4 of us - so local amenities (ir restaraunt and bar !) are esssential to be within 10-15 mins walk...

YES!!!!
get it booked pronto, or you'll not get a booking for this year.
Have you thought of one of those campsites that rents out luxury caravans/chalets? By the sea? Near a river? Pool on site??
4-5 hours driving won't get you far, even in a Scoob.
Why not have a night in a nice chain hotel, eat out, and do another 5 hours the next day: then you'll be somewhere warm!

A work friend of mine has just come back from a shopping day trip over the channel. While he was in "Eastenders" an English owned hypermarket over there his and 4 other cars got vandalised with paint striper and "English murders" scratched into the paint work. Apparently the local police didn’t want to know and one of the hypermarket staff said it was the 3rd time that week it had happened. Just a warning maybe hire a car??

Tim.

Thanks Tim. I have just booked a holiday in the south of France, was planning on taking the scooby, but I had been worried about things like this. "DShhh" don't mention the war".
I was at the American cemetary on Omaha beach a few weeks ago, some (French) people could do with visiting there to see how many Americans (and British in other cemetaries) died to liberate them. Well worth a visit if you're in the Normandie region, tons of history. I stayed for 2 nights and got as far as Bayeux/Cherbourg & coast. 700 miles total in France, enjoyed it all, there was so little traffic!

4-5 hours from which port ?

If you can sail to cherbourg, you will get down as far as La Rochelle in that time. Lovely area.

Or there are plenty of gites in the Loire valley ( just sth of Tours ).. added attraction of making vrrroooom noises as you drive down the mulsanne straight . Again, lovely area & plenty of wine to sample ...
