Calling Astraboy: my kid just got sacked.
#1
He's only 16, and has been there for less than 3 weeks. The miserable git who sacked him wouldn't listen to anything he said, just waited for him to finish, then said, "Have you finished? Good, we're still letting you go".
Apparently they sacked him because he couldn't do the job right, although he claims it was mostly their fault: inadequate training, poor supervisor etc.
He even asked for a bag to bring home his belongings( two coats, 3 tee shirts, two sweat shirts etc), and was ignored, so he had to ride his bike home in all of it, and came home drenched in sweat.
Anyone got any good ways to get even?
I've been on to Citizen's advice, but his age, and length of service(!!) are against him. He didn't even have a contract.

What are you talking about? Of course I'm for real!!
Or are you one of those people who believe that post Maggie, employers can treat people as they want to, and the employees should just take it and thank them for it?

SpongebobSquarepants, I can understand why you're upset. Your son must be feeling pretty awful right now, and that's got to be hurting you, especially as you can't see what you can do about it. However, please try to stay calm. Getting riled on here isn't going to help. This is not really something I can advise on, but I've seen some really good advice on Scoobynet in the past, and I have no reason to believe that this case will be any different.
In my opinion, the way your son was treated was very shoddy indeed, and it must be difficult for him to deal with so early in his working life. At the very least, digging out a bag for him to take his things home in would have cost nothing, and I am saddened that nobody bothered.
As far as I can see, any company that treats employees in this way is not going to be a good place to work. Hopefully your son will find another job in a better, more supportive environment. He's more likely to have better prospects in such an atmosphere.
I'm sorry that I can't say much to help. I am hopeful that someone else will be of more use than me in this case.
Please give your son my best wishes and tell him it's not his fault that the company involved were unable to deal with employees in a reasonable manner. I wish him luck in finding a better opportunity.

I just don't think it's a great attitude for a father to go encouraging his son to get revenge for being sacked/made redundant. He'll probably end up getting caught, get a criminal record and end up doing a crappy job for the foreseeable future! I think you'd be better off advising him to channel his energy into finding a new, better job. One where the people he works with are happy to encourage a young enthusiastic person.
But what do I know............................yeah you're right! best to try and get revenge!

Sorry m8 - I've re-read sponge's posts & can't see anywhere about seeking revenge or anything with criminal intent.
Its an issue of employment rights or lack of them I'm afraid - not anything else.
Please have another read at the words before this turns into a silly battle.
Thanks

I'll second that. If he is a good worker, then it was obviously a **** company anyway. Instead of revenge, help him get a better job with a better company. If he puts everything into it he can look back and say they did him a favour

"local food company" eh, sounds like an anonymous call to the local Evironmental health department to me,..
Sounds like a crap company anyway so he's better off out of it, not much concelation I know.

Sorry but
that does smack of getting some kind of revenge.
However, this is not advisable IMO, sadly as you say his age and length of service do stack against him. Try ACAS, they are sometimes helpfull.
Personally, i woould suggest that he puts it behind him, and go out to find a better and more rewarding (not just financial reward) employment.

Well, thanks for the replies, positive and negative:
Of course I've considered that he might have been pants at the job, but that wasn't my point: he wasn't treated well, and that IS my point. Just because someone is young/not right for the job they're doing, doesn't give anyone the right to treat them like a second class citizen. IMHO.
Thanks to those of you that posted sympathy, and encouraging thoughts.
As far as "getting even" is concerned, I don't intend that HE should be involved at all---in fact he won't even know about it!
But I've ALWAYS believed that the ONLY thing bullies undersatnd is getting some of what they dish out, and this guy sounds like a bully to me.

BTW, Puff, or whatever your name is, don't take the p*ss out of my name: it's not easy being yellow and porous and square you know:

Remove his legs whilst sleeping and hide them, then watch him 'try' and make it to work in the morning! I did it to my old boss - hilarious!

I would try writing to the company and saying you are unhappy about the way your son was treated. express your concenr that he was not adeqautely trained or supervised. Say something along the lines of "as a reputable employer I am sure that you appreciate the importance of induction, training and supervision of new staff. I do not feel that xxxxx was given time to demonstrate his ability to learn and develop etc etc" Maybe suggest that you will be considering an industrial tribunal. Not necessarily for dismissal, but for undue distress being caused by the manner of the dismissal. Tribunals are a nightmare and companies want to avoid having to go to them. I would expect you may get a sympathetic letter back, at the very least.
