We have a BT one at work and some other tin pot crap at home, the quality of both seems poor, I've had loads of folk ask if I'm in a wind tunnel they're that noisy!
That really isn't any help at all is it, sorry

I've had a Panasonic one for about a month now and very impressed. Can't remember the model number but it retails for around a £100. The menu is a bit tricky and the answer machine requires multiple button presses to get it to play back but apart from that I'd recommend it.
The caller display works with Telewest which is great because I can now ignore 'withheld' numbers ( as most of them are junk callers), anybody genuine will just leave a message anyway. Oh, and you send and receive text messages as well.
I had a Phillips Onis(?) before but as usual being a Phillips it went t1ts up after only 2 years. My sister in-laws Onis has just done the same and shes only had it about 18 months. Every Phillips product I have owned has become faulty within 3 years, wouldn't touch Phillips electronics with a barge pole now.

I agree with Scott. We have a pair of Panasonic Dect phones and they are great. Fantastic sound quality and the batteries last for around 3-4 days before they need recharging I took a couple of weeks to get used the answerphone menu, but now it's like second nature.
Before that, we bought the Binatone ones....Took them straight back to the shop as they hissed and crackled more then the analogue phone they were supposed to replace...
Nick.

Have a couple of BT Diverse 2010 pocket phones at home and very impressed with em.Even have a 100 name address book, where they display both name and phone number on the LCD display (Bit like a mobile phone!!) plus if you have caller display enabled, you can 'call screen'!!
I've had these phones for a couple of years now without probs so BT gets my vote (Had Samsung in the past and they're sh1te!!)
Good luck

I've got the BT Diverse phones at home as well. I have had to take two sets of Panasonic phones back to the shop as the batteries died after about 6 months. Loved the phones but changed to the BT models and have been very happy.

Another thumbs up for BT Diverse 3010 (no longer available ) which are branded Siemens units. Have had a dozen of these for 2 years with no problems. If the batteries die they can be replaced with standard rechargeables. Check for this feature on any you purchase.

If you can still get them, Hagenuk - had mine 5 years and still going strong.
However if you have the cash, the B&O ones are truly gorgeous - couldn't afford one but bought a small desk non-wireless one - very very cool.

Our customer maintenance guys reckon that BT stuff is miles better quaility than the crap you get at B&Q. I have a samsung personally, quality is great, but you have to have your ear in exactly the right place to hear someone quiet!

Another vote for the Panasonic.
A totally stupid feature count, and slightly non-intuitive to use at first, but great sound and build quality.
I also used to have a Phillips Onis and I have to say that I've never owned a more unreliable piece of consumer electronics. Luckily I had a three year extended warranty from Dixons, and replaced it five times! Non-charging batteries, dead display, mysterious switching off just to mention a few problems.
I will never buy a Phillips product again.
Cheers,
Alex

PLEASE can you all remember the model numbers for the Panasonics you are recommending? I'm also on the lookout. Saw the Panasonic TCD 650 at e100 per unit, which looked OK, but I wonder how long that central rocker button will last. Saw another big Panasonic at about e43 per unit, chunky job with non-retracting arial.
I'm also interested in how they link in (or not) with the answermachine I have on the Panasonic phone/fax - if I pick up with the cordless, is the TAM prevented from operating or does it continue?
Dad has BT Diverse, I think 2010, he seems happy with them. But if you answer on the cordless, the TAM still goes off (IIRC) - a pain.

I've got one of these and I love it. Tiny, looks good sat on top of the telly, excellent sound. The ring is a little quiet but I have other phones in the house too. You can just stick it in your pocket with the ear piece on and wonder all over the place whilst talking. I have taken it right down to the end of my road outside and it still works! Think the model is Samsung spr 6100 or similar. There are different ways to configure it but I have mine to engage the line as soon as it is lifted from the base so I think it would stop an answering machine.

Gotta hand hit to B&O.. I've got one of the `banana` phones in silver, and it's gorgeous.... It even intergrates with a B&O hi-fi, so when you recieve a call you can mute the hifi-telly from the phone...
cool!

I have the same one as BoostII , but with the built in answering machine. Works fine - even down the bottom of the garden.
Samsung SPR6150 is the model.

As above, I have the Samsung SP-R6150 which has the answerphone etc.
Used it non-stop for nearly two years now (I work from home) without missing a beat. Works fine down the bottom of the garden (approx. 100ft through two walls). Doesn't work down the pub though, but there again that is 300 yrds away
Cheers

yep that's the baby .. the only problem I have found is that the answering machine is a bit eager to cut in .... but I can probably change that if I RTFM'd
