High Protein Diets

I am 26 years old and go to the gym at least 3 times a week. I do some CV while I am there but spend most of my time working with the free weights. For the last couple of years I have been taking Whey Protein shakes and generally upping the amount of protein I eat every day.
I do have a pretty healthy lifestyle - eating well, drinking lots of water, non smoker and only drink alcohol at the weekends.
Whilst the amount of protein I am currently consuming a day isn't a great deal (just a large shake for breakfast, protein rich lunch and dinner then another shake before bed) I was wondering are there negative effects of high protein diets and if I was to increase my consumption further are there things I should be aware of?

Drop the shakes, also any Creatin, L-Orthine or any other of that cr*p.
When you eat a protein rich diet bear in mind two things:
1) In any one stomach of food, your body can only absorb 25g or any given food group. Therefore if you eat 1 Kg of grilled chicken and peas your body can only absorb around 25g. Hence if you follow a high protein diet ypur sh*t can go very hard and dark due to you cr?*pping out shed loads of protein.
2) A sustained high protein diet carries a suggested risk of dietary tract cancers in later life. This is caused by the reduction of fruit and vegtables in the diet.
Is your purpose in the wieght training just fitness or strength through bulk ?.
A balanced diet with a high protein intake is what most bodybuilders follow up to around 12 weeks before competition. Then thet go on the total protein diet to cut for shows.

I don't just pig out on protein. I eat a lot of fruit, vedge, fibre etc so my diet is a good one.
Don't get me wrong I am by no means a beefy muscle bound warrior. I am 6'3 and weigh just over 14 stone. I have always been a slim guy but am just looking to increase my muscle mass.
I am pretty fit anyway I swim and do about half an hour of CV during a workout. My main goal for lifting the weights is to build muscle, burning some more calories as I go.

I am quite happy with the way my training is going. I am putting on muscle and I feel great.
Just wondering about any health issues with a high protein (balanced) diet.
