Gaz Jones,
The last time I went I was talking to a guy who was on a Stag do and the Hotel he was staying in was 'The Heart Of Amsterdam' and it is smack in the middle of the red light district.
It sounded really cheap as they were in dorms.
He found it by searching on the internet and they have their own website.
Damian.

I've stayed in the Botel- its OK if you like the idea of sleeping on a cross channel ferry! Its that kind of thing- OK for the money though if you stay there ask for a view of the water as its far more interesting than looking at the office people on the other side.
You can rent apartments called "Coin apartments" for a couple of days- just do a websearch these might work out more economical and you'll be able to do whatever you want in there! As an aside theBotel has a fairly strict no dope smoking policy- not a problem for me but I guess for 6 lads you might want to indulge.
As for the dorm type places some friends on a stag do stayed in one and it was a nightmare.

There is a cheap hotel just next to the cannabis museum that is right in the middle of the red light district. Most of the rooms are OK but ask to see them first so you can get the best ones.

Hotel heart of Amsterdam is great - central and cheap - there were 6 of us in a 9 bed dorm
On the same road (Ouidezijk Voorburgwal - spelling could be a bit out!) is Hotel Vijaya - they only had one dorm room but the rooms are cheap if you just wanted to split into 2 groups of 3 or 3 of 2 blah blah blah - you'll find loads on the web.
Have fun
Ben

Well we are going out for a 5 a side footie competition. All in the 3 days/2 nights accomodation was £150 (although this will include costs for the footie) and return flight was £90 but that allowed us to go first thing Friday morning at 6.30 and come back late Sunday afternoon/early evening. I don't know how I am gonna play footie Saturday afternoon after all day Friday and Friday night taking in the delights Think I will be sitting in goal all afternoon

I have used the Hotel Acacia in Lindengracht (maximum 5 minute walk from Dam Square) for the past 20 years when I go to Assen for the Dutch GP.
The owners have become friends as much as anything over the years, very pro bike and prices range from between £15 - £25 per night and cheaper if you are looking to share a room.
I will be there during the last weekend in June as usual for Assen.
E-mail address is
acacia.nl@wxs.nl
Yvonne who looks after bookings speaks very good English (as most Dutch people do), and whilst the Hotel is not 5 star, it is clean, comfortable and youget a good breakfast.
