What happens to MoT certificate when number plate changes on car?
#1
Hi,
Just bought a car, and has had private plate swapped back to a normal reg.
However, the MoT certificate is obviously for the old plate. The guy hasn't had the MoT back from the DVLA local office yet as being posted out - does the MoT get reissued by the DVLA office with the newly assigned reg on it?
Or does the MoT just get sent back "as is" and so it looks like I've got an invalid MoT as different reg on the certificate?

I did this the other day, put a private plate on retention.
I took all my paperwork into a local DVLA office - they stamped the MOT (which related to the old registration) with the new registration - the V5 should be back to me in 3 to 4 weeks.
So, you still have the old MOT but it is clear that the reg has changed.
It says "cherished transfer re-registered as W123 ABC" or whatever the number is, with another DVLA stamp on it giving date, office etc.
I assume they do a similar thing when you send off the MOT, except the stamps will be from the main DVLA office, Swansea.

When I put my plate onto the Golf, the DVLA sent a replavement tax disc with my reg on, when I transferred it to the Sierra, they sent another replacement tax disc for the Golf with it's new reg, but sent the Sierra's original back, so I think it must be up to the individual licensing office what gets done.
Every MOT I have sent of has been stamped as 'cherished reg transfer'

Imlach,
I recently changed a number plate too - the process was exactly as stated by JohnMcC above.
Have a look here for Useful info .
The difference on tha tax disc may be due to postal application vs visiting your local DVLA office. Would suggets you visit your office AND IF its not tooo busy they do it all over the counter.
Try here DVLA Offices to find your local office.
