A28 from Rouen to Abbeville in northern France:
You can often see for 3 or 4 miles, and there's b*gger all on it!!
In England, the M5 south of Brum, the M180, and the M6 round the lakes etc.

The M9 makes me sooo

I can't go 20 metres without shouting in anger at the potholes that threaten to swallow my car up.

That fookin road(?) should be torn up & replaced with the fields that once stood there, It would certainly be a lot smoother!

The new M1 extension to the A1 above Leeds is good ... but my fave for (cough) Italian tune-ups is the M62 heading to Hull, after the M18 junction it's flat, straight, very few junctions or bridges ... and empty, 'cos no-one goes to Hull.

Autoroute du Neige in France in the middle of the night ,no traffic, loads of tunnels (some 10k long, you should hear my other half complain when the window goes down and its -15c outside)and curves/high bridges across valleys on the way to skiing..

I like the open part of the M74 before turning to M6. Its just a wide open space begging for some stratospheric speedo readings - not that I ever have you understand.

Worst for me is the M8/A8 - Glasgow to Edinburgh - better using the A71 as its always got roadworks or summit going on.

Worst:

M4 Maidenhead - London
M6 Birmingham - Stafford

Best:

M61 Preston - M62
M40 all of it.
M20 from Maidstone - Dover (except when they do operation stack)
M69 a gloriously quiet piece or tarmac

Dave

M40 is the best always - everyone seems to drive faster, cleaner and safer (ie, above 85, always move left after over taking and keep their distance)

M6 was the best when I was going to Manchester on a Friday night and Pete Tong was on R1

8 Hours to do M40, M5, M42, M6, M54, A5 - I HATE THEM ALL :O Kicked off at 11am, should take 3 1/2 hours in Scoob...

Why is there no M2 or M7 - is it to make it look like there is at least 64 motorways in UK - any higher than M64 - is there an M73 in Scotland?

Talking

E42 SPA Francochamps to Prum, awesome bit of motorway including some fantastic views near the GP circuit, massive drops, bugger all trafic, great sweeping bends. It's got the lot.

The UK sucks compared to mainland Europe.

M45. 7 miles of 2 lane motorway. Deserted, and used to be used by Jaguar (unofficially) for testing top speeds. The very, very ocassional speed trap, which is more for effect than results, as if you really want to see how fast you can go you check it first....

Not that I have ever done more than 70, of course

Colin.
