...there is no UN 2nd resolution, Blair turns back, America goes it alone, and then Sadam calls in United Nations to protect him?
mmm, just sat here thinking...any opinions?

interesting scenario. i'm sure you'll be able to configure it so when desert storm II comes out on PS2.
i always thought that the second rez would come but i never thought that the french would be this bloody-minded. abstain yes but the veto under all circs is quite remarkable. notice how silent schroeder has been for the last 10 days. think he's realised he's on the wrong side (how very german!) and is trying to distance himself from the diplomatic carnage now taking place.
i think we're witnessing the UN security council in its death throes. it needs to be disbanded and re-constituted in a form that can work, rather than one that tears itself apart when it comes under strain at a time when it really counts, leaving saddam laughing up his yashmak.
an organisation that can have muamar gaddafi and the libyans as head of its human rights commission is just fooking hilarious.

Anyway, am I the only one who is fed up with the constant phrases "running out if time" and such like? The media and polatictians have been saying this for weeks now.

Holy Ghost I am with you on this, the only reason its not happened is the hardware's not been in place fully
The diplomatic stuff has been a cover and Bush is only dragging it out through to next week as a favour to Blair as Bush 'owes' him one

You have to remember that the clock is ticking. It is getting warmer and warmer in the Gulf everyday now.
Not long until there are real heat problems both for troops and for their equipment.
Hence, they want this war underway as soon as possible.
Cheers

But don't you think that the longer the wrangling goes on, the more damage is being do the the UN and, in perticular, the UKs position? It's making the UK look weak IMHO. Better to say that resolution 1441 gives the authority for war and stop this quest for a second (18th!) resolution that is either a) not going to get put to a vote anyway, or b) (worst case) gets voted on but does not get the 9 votes. I'm not concered about the French veto. To me that irrelevent.

My opinion stands, Blair is Bush's little puppy in all this. He doesn't have the ***** to back-out, even if he wanted to. If you can come up with a sensible argument as to why I am wrong, go ahead, I'll listen. If you feel the need to resort to more names, don't bother.

spot on nimbus.
we've worked the system hard but the system has demonstrably failed. the problem hasn't gone away. time to say enough's enough, up yer bums jacques, gerhard & vladimir.
interesting that putin has stayed away from this the whole way through. his fall guy, fedorov, is in the chair.
the satisfying thing is that we can deep-six some $20bn+ of their collective trade deals with saddam in the process. that'll learn 'em.

if you make unintentionally hilarious postings then you must expect to have your ear tweaked occasionally.

I agree, they should go in this weekend, and get it done with quickly, if nothing else, to stop me reading the same threads on scoobynet every day, with the same opinions being regurgitated everyday
"war, <da da da> what is is good for? shutting up overopinionated I.T boffins"

unintentionally hilarious postings
Whatever you say.
It's still my opinion and I continue to stand by it, whether or not you think it was "unintentionally hilarious" or not.
As for my sense of humour, it's taking a holiday. Are you really surprised when just recently it seems to be the in thing to disagree with my opinion by insulting me, rather than by presenting an opposing view? I don't know you at all, so have no idea how you meant your comment to be taken.
If you disagree with my comments, then by all means tell me why. You never know, you might sway my opinion. You're not going to do that by calling me names, however you mean them to be taken.

"If he's telling me that there are WOMD in Iraq, I'm prepared to believe him"
And there's the problem I wouldn't believe Blair if he told me the sun would rise tomorrow. And for this he has only himself to blame...

I think the US have to do it with or without uk support. If they don't it sends a very weak signal to the other members of Bush's "Axis of evil" such as North Korea. It will look like they don't have the stomach for a fight and would be a big climbdown.
Blairs in an impossible position. He's damned if he sends troops in, and damned if he doesn't.
I wouldn't want to step into his boots at the mo.

shutting up overopinionated I.T boffins
Some of us "overopinionated I.T boffins" haven't commented on these threads at all until today, so no ritual tarring with a single brush, please.
And a few more for good measure.

don't *think* i insulted you or called you a name.
merely commented with a touch of (clearly indicated) mild amused sarcasm. and it was an hilarious post, unintentional or otherwise. but that's just in my opinion, of course.
you're being oversensitive. now stop behaving like you've been forced to suck on a lemon & chill out.

I meant it, (well not EVERYONE works in I.T)
At the end of the day, does it really matter what we think?
NO
Why? Because whats going to happen is going to happen regardless of what you or I might think of it. Anyone who thinks they can make a blind bit of difference to that is so misguided they need a well trained labrador.
1 million people marched in hyde park, what difference did that make? absolutely sweet F.A.
Personally I agree with removing Saddam Hussein by whatever means necessary, but then you and the other 2,000 people reading this post ultimately dont give a monkeys about my opinion, and nor should they!. I just dont know why some people waste 10 mins typing their thoughts on it, like George bush is gonna read it, sweep off to Colin Powell and say "hey, Colon, these scoobynet guys have got a point, lets call back the troops"
Harsh? yep, but more than fair

LOL merkin, very true!
By the way, on Question Time last night, you'd have liked the Teletext page the BBC used for viewers comments. Page 155. But since they wrote it as p155, i couldn't help but laugh!
