At the risk of a ribbing here, but wondered if the power of scoobynet could advise me where's a good place to get a fair price on a diamond? I've heard about 'wholesale' places but am not sure if they are dodgy. Looking for decent quality ie certified

Cheers

Do a search -- this was discussed at length last year. I think it was in the summer, if that helps to narrow the search a bit.

Some well established jewellers can give you excellent prices on diamonds that they have sourced themselves outside the DeBeers market.
A jeweller local to me trips around the world (Russia etc.), buying diamonds himself, saving the commission DeBeers charge (around 30% IIRC)
Phone around your local jewellers to see what they have to offer.

Diamonds 'R' Us ?

Bought a smallish one for the wife last week, solitaire type thing. They told me it would increase invalue, I'll believe it when I sell it..

Are diamonds REALLY a good investment?

second the Jewellery quarter in Brum. Top knotch stuff, and quite cheap.

They will also do custom bespoke designs..

Thumbs up

My cousin makes rings in Hatton Garden. He's just flown to India today to source his next supply of Diamonds.

If you want his details I'll put you in touch with him and you can view all the different types of Diamonds in his workshop - prices work out VERY competitive without any middle men. He'll be back in a week or so.

I can 2nd hatton garden (holborn tube) shop around between the shops look at the diamond styles decide what you want and then barter. I paid 3k for my wifes engagament ring and the insurance evaluation i had done straight after was for 4.5k. There is so much to choose from it is unreal. make sure you get certified diamond and have it evaluated afterwards.
