Hopeless Geodesy....?
#1
Recently bought a secondhand Geodesy Plus unit through this board and must say that I am, to date, fairly fabulously unimpressed.
I think it might just be a knackered unit but I thought I better ask around first. Basically if it sits around unused for a couple of days and is then plugged in it fires up and I get a blue online light. I then drive about and it does it's business very nicely. I then park up for an hour so. When I restart the car I get the red LED on and that's it. The light goes brighter every now and then but fails to go online.
Is this symptomatic of something or is it just knackered?

I sold one recently - with a similar problem I think (I hadn't used it for ages !) - but the problem seemed to be the battery ? Cost £35-40 to fix and as far as I know it was sorted..

If you use it in city centres and it hasn't gone online it will struggle, too many interuptions from buildings to get a good signal(it needs to 'see' three satalites at once) it does take its time sometimes if you plug it straight back in and blast off, make sure it has a really good 'view' of the sky(not next to 'A' pillar etc)

I have had problems with mine as well, although it seems to work better in the Almera than the Scooby. I think they may also be heat sensitive, and therefore if it is sitting anywhere near the heating duct you may find that it will get too warm to work.
My unit has been back to Geodesy a couple of times, but still takes on average 5 minutes to lock on when I first start moving. I leave mine connected all the time, irrespective of journey length.

Gastro, it was me who you sold it to!
I sent it back, as it had the same problem. The earlier units have a battery inside, which may need replaceing.Mine also had an 'offline/online fault' which they fixed.
The cost to me was £35 but included in this where two new covers, which was an unexpected but great surprise
