yes, this is about as far as my knowledge extends with regard to PC`s, hopeless, bloody hopeless.
anyhoo, the other day while playing championship manager(95/96 season!!) I took the disc out for a clean (its been in there 6 years now) and the cd-rom packed up.
just started making all sorts of whirring noises and wouldnt stop making whirring noises.
my uneducated mind has led me to believe it may be a belt that has come loose or expired because the whirring is considerably faster than it used to be when working.
can I fix it, or should I buy new and update to cd-writer.
I also need to know costs if possile and where to get it done or buy anything etc etc.
Andy
cheers, I really am that crap with computers.
Oh, and I wont change to a later championship manager because Cantona is still on 95/96.

A brand spanking new CD-Rom drive will be about £16 from somewhere like Komplett. Or you could get yourself a CD Writer for about £35 new
Not worth trying to fix it IMO.
Any idea of your PC spec ?
Reluctant to give advice as you appear to be a Man Utd fan

a Pompey season ticket holder I be.
Spec is basic, prolly 450mhz 32meg Ram but I only do simple Excell/Word stuff and a bit of net-surfing plus championship manager.
I like the sound of CD writer for about £35!
where where where? oh right, you said where
