Well the FSC Primepower machines are 100% Solaris compatible, and the installation media is even the Sun Blue Box, so in theory anything that runs on Solaris runs on the Primepower.
All the big apps like Oracle, SAP, Veritas, Legato Networker, etc are supported on the platform, but I am thinking of less known stuff that can be tested in our new Demo Centre so that it can be priven on the kit.

Hey Dave!!!
Blimey, Fujitsu Siemens still selling RM's are they?? These are what I used to work on when I first started in Unix back in 97/98 - worked for MAFF(now DEFRA) supporting 150 or so of the wee buggers RM200's right up to the RM600E's with lovely Observe . The one thing I used to love was autoconf - now why isn't that in Solaris There are similar tools but autoconf was soooooo handy!!!!
You coming to the Newbury meet mate?
Catch ya later,
Neil.

I'd look at the stuff that might cause trouble on Solaris such as compiling mod_perl as a DSO for Apache, any previous gcc issues, play with IPC and shared memory, that kind of thing.

Thats amazing mate. I used to work in the Siemens support centre and used to talk to Fran and support the 600e's at MAFF. I am apparently an expert with Observe clustering !!
Small world
Dave
P.S. Yes autoconf -l was the best command ever on the RMs. Shame theres nothing similar on Solaris, you have to use a combination of banner from ok prompt, hrdconf, prtdiag i think !!!

Thats mad. I used to sit next to Tal. He had a hairdressers M3 Convertible. I still see him reguarly, he has a WR Blue MY01 with SS B/Box and Morrettes now. I will get him to come along to the next meet, he is local.
We put the big 600e80 cluster in with EMC Symms, and i was involved in the Networker installation aswell. Talked regularly to Fran, Meg and also Lyndsey Keith (scottish lady).

Thats the one, EMC even
Yup used to work with all of them, I was getting trained up on the Networker stuff just before I left Aye Lindsay she was nice, very helpful. I was quite involved with the Networker stuff, so I can't believe I never heard your name mentioned!!!!!
Aha, so that was Tal, I also went on a course with him, Sun Solaris Admin 7 at Watchmoore park in Camberley, but don't think he really knew who me and my colleague were!!!(Lindsay was his boss, Meg was mine for a week then I was promoted to the same grade as Fran/Meg/Lindsay ) At least he bought a decent car in the end
Very bizarre mate!!!! Really can't believe our paths got sooooo close!!!!

bigbrother is not that good. If you are in the market for a network based monitoring tool, try netsaint. It's free, and a whole lot better..
as for solaris application, why can't we get any proper mp3 players??
all the one's I've tried are sh**e. what's the point of having a 212gig raid5 array when I can't play my mp3's from it

How about a decent browser?
HotJava? is basically pants.
The Netscape builds are buggy and fall by the wayside.
The IE build worked for a little while then went belly up.
Opera is looking promising....
I end up running an Microsoft OS on the SunPCI card just to browse the web...

w3m beats Lynx hands down Opera is my GUI browser of choice, Netscape is way too bloated and buggy and I don't think I need to comment on Microsofts sorry excuse for an offering.
