Trying to remember a previous life, but I *think* you just need to swap the audio filter from 5.5 to 6MHz...or the other way round...

Or maybe it's even tuneable (ie; variable)...sorry, don't really remember.

Any decent repair shop should know about it - and the item to swap *should* only cost 5 quid or so

Bit of a long shot this one but I thought I'd try the Scoobynet massive on this.

My friend has a just been given a TV. The set was originally bought in Germany where it worked fine. On bringing it back to England it can't be tuned in for sound. i.e you can get a picture but the only sound you get is white noise.

Is it buggered or do German TV's operate on a different frequency to UK ones?

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks

Mark

Cool

Has somebody put their towel over it?

Just remove it for full clarity.

Question

I think it's a case of different versions of PAL using different carriers for the audio signal. Might be worth seeing if there's an enginners menu that lets you change which flavour of PAL it uses.

Basically you have run into the PAL europe and PAL uk discrepancy.
You are right audio settings will need to be changed in TV. Usually they change a crystal so that your picture and audio coincide.

Last time I got it done was with a video, cost 70 quid.

Not sure about the crystal changing thing, has the newer technology got the ability to have this done ?

Basically the TVs modulator is tuned to receive a signal that isn't complainant with the UK standard Pal-I system. The Audio carrier is at a different frequency, ours is 6MHz, not 5.5MHz off-set from the vision carrier or thereabouts.

I'm sure there is a solution out there though.
