Can anyone reccomend a good one?
I have been browsing the HP/Compaq/Palm offerings and would appreciate any help. I had a Casiopeia (I think that is how it is spelt) on trial for a few weeks but didn't like it much.
Also where is the cheapest to buy - USA/Duty Free/Singapore?
Cheers

Hi Richard
I would recommend HP Jornada 680/720.
I prefer having a 'real' ( small but usable ) keypad as opposed to using stylus and screen keypad or learning how to write all over again.
Only down side is the size as opposed to the 'Palm' types.
Just depends on what you intend to use it for.

I expect that I will be mostly browsing e-mail and using the diary side of things. Can you play movies/games on these as well?
I am tempted to get a Palm for the time being...

Hi Richard
Neil's spot on with his comments - they all have good and bad points - depends what you want to use it for.
I needed something neat and small to send e-mails on the hoof, manage diaries (Lotus Notes & Outlook)task lists and reminders. I didn't need any other program functionality - Word, Excel and the like, or and MP3 player or web-browsing capability.
That's why I chose a Palm Vx - it does all I want it to do.
Best place to buy? Try:

Hi Richard
Has Kav said if you don't intend using the Word / Excel / Powerpoint / Access stuff then you don't really need the Keyboard.
E Mail / Web Browsing is fine on the Jornada though.
Scoobynet looks good on it and the little modem is quite quick.
Never done games on it so I wouldn't know - sorry.
The HP Palm model does have mp3 and you can download books so somebody else can do all the reading.
Check the sites out that kav mentioned and

Has to be an iPAQ, new models coming out soon, so if you don't need the fancy features current ones will drop in price. B&W iPAQ also a good price at the moment.
It's stacks faster than the current HP models and also has flash upgradable ROM.

I agree with GregH that the new iPAQ is the better choice. We've been using/demonstrating one at work for the last month or so, and we're just waiting to get hold of a GPRS jacket for it (currently using it via GPRS mobile phone!)
So far it's better than the Casiopeia we used previously (again through GPRS), so if I were spending the money, I'd go Compaq.

I just got a Palm m505.
I had a Old 3Com Palm for years and its finally died. The main choice is "propper" keyboard or handwriting thingy. If you want to type a letter or something on the train then a keyboard is the best, but if you just want to have a great diary and email thing then a PalmType is good. Colour is nice but not essential for most real work. Palms have DocumentsToGo which allows reading/edition word/excel on the move. CE boxes support PCMCIA wicch is good for easynetworking. As I use a laptop for serious work I find the ultimate potabillity of a Palm very good. Also you can get a simple palm for £99 that does most of the really important stuff.
Hope this helps
