Things in the pipeline!
#1
Firstly let's put things into perspective.
People's post get removed/locked or altered. It's not the end of the world is it? It's not as though someone broke into your house and burned it down, A thread or post was moderated on a BBS. Get over it!
On the subject of inconsistancies. I completley agree. We have been inconsistant in what we deal with and what we don't.
This is because
1. We are human and have different points of view
2. We only have a limited amount of spare time in which to run the BBS.
3. We rely, on a certain extent on the users reporting things to us. If people don't RTM us we often don't find it.
What is going on in the background is a shed load of work to ensure that EVERY forum will have a set of posting guidelines. What is acceptable and what is not. When a post will be moderated and when it won't.
I think it's unfair of us to moderate a thread when the user does'nt know what is ok and what is not(Although the T&C people signed up to state that pretty well). The objective of the guidelines is to add extra 'meat' around the T&C to leave the user in no doubt what is OK and what is not.
This is an awkward in between phase, and it won't last forever. There are draft guidelines being discussed at the moment and hopefully they'll be done within a month.
Yes it's annoying to see your thread being moderated when X's is'nt but we're taking proactive steps to ensure this is minimised.
In short we know where the current system could use a little more work and we're working hard to make it better. All we ask is a little patience while things get worked out.

So what you are saying is:
With more moderators moderating more threads the moderation by the moderators can be less moderate even when moderation is required for moderating already moderate threads by the moderators.

FFS!
Thank you Neil for explaining the current situation and why things for the way they do.
Just a shame that straight after that you get posts from the "it's not fair brigade".

MATTel, who precisely said it "wasn't fair"?
All i'm saying is that by the sound of this, there will be more draconian measures to limit what is, and more specifically what isn't, acceptable.
I think care has to be taken not to prevent people talking freely about a whole range of subjects.
Personal insult-throwing is what needs to be curtailed.

If everyone knows what they can/can't post about & where etc, then transgressors can be dealt with fairly and simply.
The transgressor will know the line crossed and so will the Community.
The prob at the moment is that the lines are not clearly defined and the mod structure is not yet in place to do so. That is what is coming shortly.
I daresay there might be a period of "re-adjustment" but it will be brief.
One of the main things that will be targeted is the personal insult throwing that currently goes on & in this case, moderation is what is needed.
This is a community, not a sounding off or slagging off board. All we want to do is to get it back to a happier & more equable place - somewhere that the everyone will want to contribute to, not just the current minority.

Terry..why does it have to be a democracy anyway? You want a vote? Then vote woth your feet and leave mate(Um thats an example of democracy and not me trying to fall out with ya). I like scoobynet for technical advice and some banter. I'd be just as happy if it had no banter though as I can get plenty of that down the pub with real people (like you) and not multilog-on two faced cowards (like many here)

Oi, Tel, stop fecking posting or I'll never overtake you. I've dealt with that blighter AC, so that means you're next...
Hmmm, do I mean blighter? Or do I mean a word that sounds similar?
Still, no matter, he'll never see this unless it's in Muppets. He don't come round these 'ere parts.

Tel,
The whole point of the guidelines is to REDUCE the amount of moderation we do.
As much as we like SN, we don't want to spend 24 hours a day on it.
Why do I say it'll reduce the amount we do, it's because everyone will know where the boundaries are. So we'll be able to act
1. More consistantly.
2. Quicker
3. With less ambiguity.
How much 'moderating' we do is entirely dependant on the user. I don't like locking, vaping threads any more than people like having them locked or vaped.
For example, if every user chooses to post **** then they can expect those posts to be removed. If no body posts **** then no posts will be removed.
So I don't see the amount of posts being moderated going up in the medium/long term but what I do see is the volume going down, along with the people who's posts are moderated having a clear idea as to why and that idea being consistant for everybody.
Hope that's put your mind at rest

CEL - So mature and well argued! Don't you think it is comments like that which are actually the issue?
I have my own opinions and often disagree with moderators, I either keep quiet or take it up with them off-line. I don't see the point in discussin private matters in public.
TelBoy - Most of your posts are inflammatory or degrading in some respect. If you don't like it here go somewhere else.
Old Fart/Chuckster (RIP) - Spot on.

MAttel,
did it look like i was trying to argue anything in that post?
NO, i dont think its comment like mine that are the issue, i was mearly trying to lighten thinks up a bit. Were you born without a sense of humour?
I frankly cant be arsed to read the post again to see exactly what you are trying to say when you refer to PRIVATE matters.
My comment was intended to be taken light hertedly, maybe you need to chill out my friend, relax.

BTW I want nicotine...
Damn it. I've just realised that applies to me too, though not in relation to nicotine. Guess I'll have to stick to my own advice too. Bah!
