Best to check out the local electrical stores before you buy.

I was looking for a fridge earlier this year, couple of the sites looked to have good prices which beat the Comet / Currys on-line price. Ended up going down to Comet just to check it out and the fridge I was after was £10 cheaper than anything I'd previously seen.

A reasonable site to compare prices is

I ended up at comet, for mine after spending hours on line and in various shops... Anyway my findings were this. Most white goods were available quite a bit cheaper online and if you want a given model then yes it is usually possible to get it cheap online. If your needs were less specific then the big stores all do loss leaders on one of each product each month.

Now we were in the position where we just wanted a 6ft Silver Fridge Freezer, looked on line and they were all around £350-£400 depending on make. Then I called into comet and that months cheap fridge was a 6ft silver fridge freezer for £295, it was a Servis one and the same as a the one which was £399 next door in currys and £370 online. I did of course order it.

Same thing happened with the new oven, looked online and round all the discount appliance centers, ending up buying Currys special was £699 now £329. Whilst I don't think it's worth £699 it was a far better spec than any other sub £400 oven so i bought it.

Never though I'd write so much about white goods, best not get me started on the Dyson
