I'm in the middle of upgrading the j.r-xrs PC but having problems with the operating system. Having only the upgrade CD Which only works from windows I have installed 98 and sorted out he drivers. However whenever I try the upgrade to SE suwin fails.
I suspect the drivers for the HighPoint hard drive subsystem (the baord is an ABIT KA7-100).
Does anyone have any ideas? I am using the latest drivers, but will now try some older ones, since I've had this board working before.....
Cheers

LOL
Drinking? Wrong end of the day!!
Having said that I am on holiday, so my brain has probably stopped working!
Perhaps the early hour and my poor typing didn't help.
Basically, I have changed my son's PC from a 550 Intel to my old 750 AMD. I tried to just update the drivers (for the VIA chipset and Highpoint ATA system) but kept getting problems, so I decided to start from scratch.
I formatted the C drive, installed Win 98 and various combinations/ages of drivers for sound card, mother board and hard drive.....
They all fell over part way into the upgrade to Win 98SE.
So I got fed up and installed Min Me. I hate it, but if the boy wants to be on Scoobynet tonight (and he doesn't like using my machine for some reason) it had to be done.
Only probelm is I forgot to back up his favourites, so I guess he'll have to be happy with mine.

So, you are Dr Evil and have installed Mini me!!
They don't like being messed about PCs do they?
Only thing I'd have done different would be to fdisk the HDD to really really blat it out.
Alternatively, are they selling W98SE OEM cheap to get rid of it now?
