i didnt realise how much fuel prices have crept up.....
i knew where i was with £/gallon etc. but then this litre per k complicated a historical milestone.

anyway mostly pi55ed off that £40 gets be about half a tank and about 300 miles or so. thats £4 for 30 miles, whichis cr4p in my estimation.

this country is fooked up, lets all go to Iraq, where oil is cheap!!

.....Just a suggestion!!! (rant over, back to work!)

You get less than £10 per £40 spent, or more shockingly over 400% tax !

Do you know of any other products that get taxed by the government this much ?

Beemer boy, having recently been made redundant from a "major oil company" i take offence at what you are saying. Firstly why do you think all the majors are pulling out of the North Sea and thus less jobs ? It is because they are being taxed out of the country, pure and simple. At $30 a barrel an oil company will pay around $24 in tax direct to the government. This taxed oil will then be refined into products (petrol, diesel, bitumen etc)which in turn is taxed again at varying rates depending on the product. You then come along and fill up your 318iS with unleaded and pay the government another 17.5% tax. The garage makes less than 1p a litre and relies on overpriced sandwiches to turn a profit. Oh and the final kick in the ***** from the government, should a british based oil company make too much profit, it is taxed on it. And the second most obvious point is - where do you think the supermarkets buy there fuel from. Yep, you guesed it, the major oil companies refineries. There is no asda / tesco / sainsburys refinery, just good old BP and shell in this country. The only person you would be hurting in your ill thought campaign would be the poor guy who has splashed out a fortune on buying into a forecourt franchise, working hard and hoping to turn a profit. Please think before clicking the forward button in your e-mail. Rgds Rab

One very small word explains why petrol costs too much...

Tax.

End of story. Just look at bio diesel - costs 3p a litre and is arguably more environmentally friendly than other fuels. It'll cost you 30-odd p a litre just to put it in your vehicle tho. (NB: doesn't work on scoobs

I like the way the author gets wet knickers about sending it to 300 million people, without thinking that there are only 60m in the UK, half of whom don't drive, and two thirds of whom probably don't have access to an email account. Oh, and forgetting that most of the time people won't be sending it on, but will be sending it back to some poor sucker who's already seen it six times.

Written by an eager (overzealous, Constable Savage!) 19-yr-old, I suspect.
