Tom Jones!!! NO WAY. He's a ONE key, ONE note even! and always in ONE style. THE MOST overrated singer off ALL time. Talk about resting on his laurels.

Im gonna get grated but Ive always thought Celine Dion has one of the most powerful voices Ive ever heard. If any of these popstar punks had a voice 50% as good as hers then they might actually get somewhere.
Another one is Mick Hucknall from Simply Red. I dont like most of his/their music per say, but after seeing him sing live on TFI Fridiay (a few years back) and use what looked like a My First Sony stereo for backing music I was gobsmacked. None of this miming bollocks that most people do these days - totally live and sounded as good, if not better than the cd version.
There are very few decent singers coming out these days. Its all bands. The days of classics like Madonna, Jacko etc seem to be disappearing rapidly.
Simon.

David Gray is fantastic. I like Melanie C's voice. Kelly Rowland, Beyonce, Robbie Williams, Pink oh and the best ever Freddie Mercury!

Tough one, 'cos there's great SINGERS and great VOCALISTS.
Great singers I've seen / heard live:
- Annie Lennox
- Dodge McKay (Ghost of an American Airman)
- Robert Plant
- James Dean Bradfield (while playing great guitar too)
Great vocalists:
- John Lydon / Rotten
- Gene Vincent
- Ian Dury
- Liam Gallagher (tw*t but a bloody good voice)
- Kenny Rogers (why sing when you can croak?)

WIthout a shadow of doubt, David Gray is the best male vocalist around at the moment.
There are a number of good women vocalists about but I'm gonna stick my neck out and be old - the best ever in my opinion is Barbara Streisand . Despite having a huge conk and being exceptionally ugly, her voice is wonderful. Don't knock it until you've heard it!!
My fiancee and I have just chosen one of her songs (duet with Bryan Adams) to be for our first dance at our wedding in a few months.

Rick Astley had a stunning voice, and the world at his feet (almost), and he just walked away from it all. Top bloke
Pete Waterman never quite got over that one
