Just read this on the Autoexpress website:

Golf To Put Heat On WRX
Move over, Subaru! Volkswagen has your legendary Impreza WRX in its sights with the most powerful production Golf ever built. This innocent-looking prototype is packing a 250bhp version of the current car's 3.2-litre V6 motor, and will offer blistering performance along with the refinement VW buyers expect.

The new model, to be revealed early next year, is likely to carry the RSi badge and will use the engine already seen in the Audi Steppenwolf and VW Microbus concepts. Essentially a reworking of the 204bhp V6 currently in the Golf, the powerplant is linked to a six-speed manual gearbox and the 4Motion all-wheel-drive system.

Although its looks are to differ slightly from the version seen here, the final production model will still hide its 155mph performance well. Modifications are restricted to a deeper front spoiler ? with additional air intakes to cool bigger front brakes ? extended side sills plus a larger rear bumper and exhaust tailpipes. The model will be launched as part of minor 2002 model year revisions for the entire Golf range. The manufacturer has scrapped plans to give its best-seller a major facelift because the current model is still popular.

Minor interior changes include new 'hoop' headrests, while the range will extend to a 150bhp PD turbodiesel and a 180bhp version of the GTI turbo. VW also plans to turn its limited-edition Beetle RSi into a full production car, using the same 250bhp engine and four-wheel-drive system as the Golf. Its styling is more aggressive, though, with lowered suspension, big alloys and an electrically operated, pop-up rear wing.

Stuff that, I'm interested in the Audi S3 that is apparently coming out in a couple of years (Car Mag) with rear suspension better than a Focus plus 280bhp. In 4wd, sounds like a killer.

Exclamation

Do not forget: 4wd in Golf and Audi A3 works with a Haldex, and is not a full time 4x4. In first place, it's a front wheel drive!
Subaru has ALWAYS a 50% front/rear wheel drive from the start! (variable!)

You have to test the system before you really understand the difference between the two systems...

Greetings,

Jo

I was after the current S3 rather than the Scoob I've just got, but company car rules say I must have a 4 door car I took the next best thing IMHO, although I had all the paper worked signed off for a 4-Motion before my boss told my I needed the Scooby.

The prototype of the new Mazda RX7 appears to be a four door car... looks nice too, or that one at the NEC did last year.

In the meantime, Im stuck with the Scoob for another 2.9 years
