some advice please Jack.
I have Norton System-works and I obviously use it to scan emails and protect my system.I update the virus defintions monthly.
I am a computer numpty so apologies if the question is stupid but...........if i get a dodgy attachment(ie the new one you refer to) will Norton antivirus pick it up? or do i need to go to Symantec and update for it first?

Cheers for that Jack.
Just added .LNK to the list of blocked attachments on GroupShield, although our 1st level defense (Mail Essentials) box blocks them out of the box

Some person I don't know in Israel has just sent me a copy (cheers whoever you are ). GroupShield did it's job though and binned the attachment straight away.

If you update Norton today then it's likely that they will pick it up.
Best thing to do it check on their web site, I'm not sure if you have to make any changes to your configuration or not.

Hmmm... seems to originate from rr.com (again). I received the file 15 times yesterday, all from the same IP address/email address.
Clever (if you can call it that) ... it scans the internet cache for email addresses, so it can be sent to all webmasters & postmasters etc ..
Jack, just for info... does it replicate itself through all "open" shares (even the $something ones) ?
This virus just hit a company I work for badly, and I'm trying to see how dangerous shares actually are (in a Microsoft way )

EvilBevel, if the user has access to the share then so does the virus as it has the same permissions when executed as whoever is logged on.
Unfortunately most end users seem to be given admin permissions as default.
I'm in Singapore at the moment so can't pop into the lab for further information, hope the above helps.

open up System works, click options on the task bar and select Antivirus.Click on email protection on the left menu and you get a blue menu screen pop up.Put a tick in the first box to enable Email protection and then make sure you have ticked your chosen email programme from the white box in the middle (probably just have outlook/outlook express in it).Next click on the little plus sign next to Email protection and select Advanced.Select 1,2 and 4.Then open your email prog and select recieve and a little logo should pop up to confirm that a/v is scanning emails!!
if you have any probs email me and i will try to help, but i aint a techy, just played with it.
