Seem to get them quite regularly. Ones on the tongue arent too bad but the buggers on ur gums are particularly annoying.

Anyone got any tips for preventing and treating them, other than Bongela which numbs the pain for an hour or so and rinsing with salt water which doesnt do much at all?

Simon.

Oooooo this is my deptartment...........

Mouth ulcers usually occur when you are run down try taking vitamins. Bonjela or anything like will merely numb the pain it won't cure the ulcer.

You might try Corlan Pellets, a very tiny tablet which will heal the ulcer, not sure how much they are these days.............but very effective. Should be able to get them from your local chemist but check with the pharmacist first if you are taking prescribed medication. Alternatively.......try a mouthwash, something like Corsodyl.

They can also be caused by an allergy to certain foods. I used to get them quite a bit and finally worked out they were caused by banana's. Gave up banana's and haven't had one since (unless I fall off the banana wagon and eat banoffi pie!!)

I found that they were mainly caused by three day+ drinking binges. Cut down on the drink and they went away, until next time.

Also, I believe too much sugar in your diet can cause mouth ulcers. It's teh hidden stuff you need to watch out for!

That's what I was thinking TK - Zovirax is for Cold Sores. Not sure it's recommended for internal use is it?

i get em all the time on my gums

bonjella is absolute rubbish
boots sell somthing else better
It has a purple, blue and white box (cant remeber what its called)
This stuf works well as it numbs the pain better and longer than bonjella and also cures it up much quicker
Highly recommended

Best advice - Go see your DOCTOR! Doc will know your medical history, some drugs mentioned may not be suitable for you.

I've had loads of ulcers. A few things have cut them down - stopped smoking (the biggest), eat more healthly (says eating a pot noodle), get enough sleep.

The stuff i've found best to get rod of them is Orabase. I use mouth wash then slap some on.

Corsodyl mouthwash seems to work well for me, and I find the following tend to be the cause - too much sugar, esp. chocolate and geting dehydrated from going out on the **** (when you wake up with a mouth full of what feels like half-solidified copydex!)

Neat salt! Get a load on the end of a damp finger and press it directly onto the ulcer. Hurts like f***, in fact you'll nearly black out, but gets rid of them v.fast.

Bonjella is preety useless in my opinion. The numbing is poor and doesnt last very long
USe Adcortyl from boots.
Its a fiver and numbs really well for ages. It also really speed up healing.

I get loads of ulcer on my gums mainly when i bang them with my toobrush

My oral hygiene is pretty good. I clean my teeth with an electric toothbrush at least twice a day. I also floss and use mouthwash a couple of times a week. Dont have any fillings and never have any problems at the dentists.

I did knock my gum around the affected area with my toothbrush so that looks to be the cause this time.

From what Ive seen on various medical pages there is no one main cause of them. They arent contagious so I cant see how anyone can get them from oral sex - sounds like an urban myth.

If they do persist would I be better seeing a doctor or a dentist??

Simon.
