I want to install a 20gb hard drive to replace my old and full 6gb drive. I also want to use the opportunity to only install my current programmes and remove all the rubbish on my current drive as I am having a lot of trouble trying to load on new software for my digital camera and having sound problems. How do I go about installing the software? How do I install my current settings and my documents? Do I need to re-install a back up to achieve this?
Any idea's?
Cheers
Tim

Don't replace the old HDD, just add the new one in as well. Then you have 2 disks instead of one.
That's what I did. I have a 3.5Gb and a 20Gb with the bigger disk having my games and digital camera stuff on, the smaller one has operating system and general gubbins.
If you have Norton Ghost or similar, you can make an image of all your current files backed up onto the new disk. Then format the smaller one and start installing the operating system etc. from scratch on to it. All your existing stuff will be on the new disk, and anything you don't need from the ghosted files you can get rid of at your leisure.

If you're not really sure how to do this, don't. Get someone who knows what they're doing. Back up all your important data though.
If you wish to do a straight replacement of drives, then reinstall everything from original disks anyway, in case software is currupted on the old H/D.
If you really want to have a go yourself, I'll try and help.
Good luck!

Cheers for your replies.
Despite having just done the mother board, processor and RAM myself (god know's how), I've decided to get it done at a local computer shop who are supplying the disk. All I need to do is supply the drivers and they will do the rest for me.
God I'm lazy
