Question

OK - Got the motorhome. Now time for the toys. I have a high spec laptop and Autoroute 2002. Anyone know if I can buy a GPS receiver that will plug into the laptop and talk to Autoroute. (Maybe this should be in computer related... feel free mods)

Yes.

There used to be a lot of good words (might still be... i don't read them much anymore) on the GPS newsgroups about www.gpsw.co.uk for buying GPS toys.

I've got a Garmin, works fine with my puter.. haven't tried it with autoroute though 'cause i've not got a laptop.

I think you need a patch for Autoroute to change the refresh rate from the default of 15 seconds to something more useful like 2 seconds.

If you are going to use a laptop for display you don't need a GPS system with a screen and buttons. I.e. you just need the aerial/decoder.

You can buy these and they just plug into the COM port on the laptop.

Can't for the life of me remember what they are called but they do work a treat.

Cheers
