Where to buy external SCSI CD-ROM drive?
#1
I need an external SCSI CD-ROM drive (or internal + external cage) to connect to the back of a Sun UltraSPARC. I've tried the usual suspects (Dabs, Insight, Simply, Novatech, Maplins) but can't really get anywhere. There's a 32x TEAC one for about 50 quid but it's internal, and there aren't many suppliers for the cases.
Key requirement: as cheap as poss, but need fairly quickly so no arsing around with ebay, qxl, etc.

When I worked with macs there were external cases available which you could put what ever SCSI device in that you needed, they had internal PSU's SCSI connectors and SCSI id selectors. I'm sure such cases are still around

Quick word of (possible) warning - the older SPARCs expected the CD drives to use a different block size for data transfer than the PC, so many weren't compatible, and you got data overrun errors.
I'm sure the new ones cope okay though, as they can select the block size 'slong as you are on Solaris 2.6,7 or 8, and using a recent (i.e. not 5 years old!) CD drive that can understand the commands.
There's loads of places that do SCSI enclosures, SteveM's link is probably the best place for 'em.
