video CD writing - HELP !

Ok - I've now got NERO burn software.....
I import my DV video into my program and create a PAL compatible AVI file/MPEG.........
When I burn the CD to create my video CD everything seems to work OK........BUT - my DVD player doesnt recognizr it (Sony S725).......
I've produced my 3rd coaster tonight and I'm getting cheesed off !! Can some boffin out there tell me what I'm doing wrong etc....?

What software are you using to import the DV?

Does the video CD play ok from your PC Cd-rom?

The AVI file must be a certain size, check out the video CD faq here:

are you sure your dvd supports cd-r's ?

i have a mate with a 6 month old sony unit that supports video cd but not cd-r. if u are not sure, burn a music cd and try and play it in the dvd player.

I am sure that the DVD player will not recognise CD-R's - mine doesn't.

Yep - you are correct - my DVD doesnt read CD-R's
Any way that cam get round this with my present player ?? Will CD-RW discs work etc.....???

think you are snookered mate !!

maybe you might be able to get a firmware upgrade for it but thus can be a dodgy process and can knacker the dvd player.

do a search with google............

I thought my Samsung DVD709 did not read CD-R's - it is not supposed to. However, it does read Sony CD-R's quite happily and reads CD-RW's fine. IIRC, according to a DVD FAQ, the wavelength of laser required for CDRW and DVD are similar at one end, CD in the middle and CDR at the other end. Most DVD players therefore read CD originals, CDRW and DVD, and some (usually more recent models) read CDR - and for those that are marginal with CDR such as mine and yours, the individual brand of CDR can make a difference - not just quality either as Maxell didn't work.
