Can anybody point me in the right direction
on how to get sound from my pc. I've just got some speakers for it and in win98 it has a soundblaster audio PC1 64V. Is this 1 of those soundcard thingies, can I get sound through the speakers with the soundblaster or do I have to purchase anymore hardware.
Any help would be appreicated.
Cheers, C

if you have a soundcard and speakers, in theory, this is sufficient.
Your drivers might be a) missing b) there but for another sound card c)plain screwed
First make sure you have the correct manufacturers CDs/driver discs. If not, don't proceed!
Go into control panel/system
on the devices tab, click on the sound/video/game controllers item and delete the items that refer to a soundcard (wave/audio/MIDI are the buzzwords)
IMPORTANT: if you have a modem, there may be a wave device entry for it, so don't delete that one.
come out and reboot, when back in win98 it should say, New Hardware Found. This is where your driver discs/cds will come in. You'll need to specify the device and point win98 (when prompted) to the drivers on your discs.
If you don't know which ones to delete, let us know what the soundcard is (specific model) and what you have in the device list agains the sound and video item and we can help further.

does any of that make sense?

Not sure I follow what your asking. Yes plug your speakers into the small jack socket nearest to the joystick port, (the biggest "male" sockety thing on the card) on the back of your PC. There's usually a logo of a loudspkr or some such stamped on it.
Switch the speakers on and boot up, you should hear "the windows theme" as the desktop comes on.
Otherwise what you on about?
