V5 and HPI queries
#1
Saw a nice car at an independent dealer today. He showed me the HPI check which I have a few queries about
Firstly it had no details about previous owners. Does this mean that the car has only had one registered owner ?
Second, there was a mileage query from an insurance company when the car was 3 months old. The dealer said that insureance companies always request a mileage verification for new policies. is that true ?
The dealer didn't have the V5, but did have the service book and handbooks. He said that the car was bought at a dealer auction and they weren't given the V5 but were obtaining one from the DVLA. Does that sound right ?
The dealer is a well established independent outfit specialising in performance cars so maybe my concerns aren't warranted but any info is appreciated.

Wait until the V5 turns up (old or new from DVLA). NEVER NEVER buy a car without the V5 unless you like giving people thousands of pounds for the sake of it.
Check with DVLA about the proving of ownership.
Do your OWN HPI check. Many dealers (however reputable) can 'print' off certificates falsely. Any reasonable dealer will be happy to sell a legitimate car your way for customer peace of mind - what do they have to lose by you doing the check? nothing so don't let them bully you into not doing your own check (it only takes 10 minutes tops).
