Dreamweaver 4 help
#1
Simple question hopefully!! I can't find anyway to tell DW to ignore a directory locally when it does the site sync.
I have a directory that is created using Greymatter, I'd like to download it from the site to local as backup, but I never want Dreamweaver to upload and overwrite the remote files.
I can't find anywhere to do this, even Frontpage has this ability!!
cheers,
greg

I use DW (obviously ), but usually just manually transfer the pages accross within the DW window.
However if you click edit you can select newer pages in either the local or remote site. If you do this for the local site it will select only the files you have worked on since the last synch - you can then click Put to send them over.
However, not sure if this answers your question If you simply want to copy the DIR from the remote server, then just click and drag the file accross the window into your local site > you can then copy this to your HDD. Maybe need a bit more explanation to your problem.

cheers, let me try and explain better.
Website has (for example)
dir1
dir2
index.htm
dir1 is dynamically updated by other programs, dir2 is the 'stuff' I do with DW.
Obviously if I edit one file I can simply put that which I do. However I want to sync the whole site regularly, as backup, which I would then want dir1 downloaded from the server, but if I was mucking around locally i WOULDN'T want anything in dir1 UPLOADING ever.
Does that make sense?

>> If dir1 is dynamically updated on the server then it has no business being on your PC. remove it.
>>or have I missed the point ?
Want it downloading for backup purposes.

I think I understand you now. To get around this just ensure that Dir1 local is stored away from your site as defined by DW.
Therefore your local site would just be:
Dir2
Index.html
Then when you put the whole site it should just send the above 2 and overwrite the current Dir2 and Index.
To backup the site you would then have to manually transfer Dir1 from Remote to Local and then move Dir1 within your own file structure. i.e. go to where you site is held and cut and paste Dir1 into a separate folder. This is the only way I can think of really.
