"A performance artist paid £12,000 to kick a takeaway curry carton through a town centre has cancelled the event for fear of too much interest."

"The concept behind the take-away box performance was "to destabilise and question this revelry by kicking a take away curry and carton from one end of the High Street to the other."

FFS, I'll do that for £2,000 and the other £10,000 can give a nurse or somebody useful a nice bonus!

Taxpayers money? My god what a shear waste. This bloke should be taken away in a straight jacket.

It may well be in the eyes of the pretentious but it shouldn't cost 12K. That is quite simply obscene.

Read here

The £12,000 fee also included a number of other stunts as well.It wasn't just for kicking the carton of curry. The point was to highlight anti-social youths in Bedford.I'm sure the people of Bedford are now aware of the problem and if it results in a tidier town centre all the better.

Not for EVERY nurse or copper it wouldnt.Anyway why does everything come down to "oh that'd pay for a hip operation, thats one extra policeman etc, etc".If everyone thought the same as you no-one would take any risks or do anything different in life.

It'd be a boring f*cking world....

Fair enough Paul, but...

He kicks this curry down the road and does the other things this week. By next week no one will remember a thing about it, it won't have changed anything (IMO at least).

However, if it had gone towards funding a new police officer for a year, that's a much longer lasting thing with much bigger benefits to all.

Chris....i see where you're coming from but the Metropolitan Police Authority budget alone is £1.996bn.......£12,000 is nothing.

Hmm, tis indeed a drop in the ocean isn't it?

I wonder what the total would be if you added up all the money spent on 'project' like this?

I just think that the people who have decided to spend and spunk this money away have no real idea or concept of what goes on in a typical city centre town on a Saturday night. It's been a waste of 12K. Repairs to a knackered cctv camera somewhere would have been a better idea. This? just lots of pats on backs, great idea comments, promotion for someone....But those symbolic curry cartons are still going to be dropped and kicked.
