Been on the uswitch site and it recommends Amerada as my gas and electricity supplier. I will save over £178 a year on my fuel bills!!!

Anyone got any experience, good or bad, of Amerada as I have not heard of them?

Thanks.

Thanks for the info, do you have to pay by direct debit every month at an amount they calculate? Or can you pay every 1/4 by debit card once the bill has been worked out and for that bill amount only?

Done some more research and Scottish Power also allow you to run your own account on-line, you enter the reading every 90 days, your bill is calculated and you can pay online with your debit card within 7 days. I also save nearly as much with them.

It is just I don't want to be paying every month by direct debit, I would rather just pay the bill every quarter. I put aside a certain amount every month anyway but would rather be more in charge of when and what I pay, if you see what I mean.

I'm not sure on the billing - check their website, most of the low cost suppliers need to have regular electronic payments as producing bits of paper is expensive for them..

Amerada (Amerada Hess is their full name) are a monster big energy company. Not hugely well known over here, but very big in the States etc. They are also customers of ours and very nice chaps to deal with it must be said. Not had any experience of them as a direct supplier, but I certainly wouldn't have any problem using them based on my experiences of working with them.

Went on the Amerada site and their unit price for their gas must be wrong.

I was told I would save almost £100 by switching from British Gas to their on line gas service, using their on line calculator. However when I calculated the figures myself, I was worse off!!!

With British Gas charging 2.594p per first 1163 KWh and 1.466p per unit after and Amerada charging 1.7762per KWh unit regardless, there is no way Amerada can be cheaper for my annual bill!!

Is the 1.865p (1.7762p excl of VAT) correct on the Amerada web site?? If it is, then British Gas are cheaper!!!!

Thanks for your comments. However I've just signed up for Scottish Power dual fuel online monthly direct debit scheme.

Their rates were the lowest I could find, they answered my emails within 24 hours, always a good point, and they have emailed me exactly what the steps involved are. Also they will keep me up to date with the progress of my appliation and more importantly I have saved almost £15 a month!!
