Question

I am currently trying to build a Compaq NT Cluster Server and have some questions.
Do you need install NT on to one node or both.
I was told that the initial installation would detect the second node and load NT onto it or is that talking nonsense.

I have previously tried loading NT onto both nodes separately and whenever I try to configure the NICs the node crashes and dumps.

Any Cluster Gurus out there?

Yeah I have had to administer one but never build one.
Been dropped right in it.
From what I understand it is a pretty standard set up, Compaq ML's with an external array, is this what you have experience with?
Cheers

My team of boyz have experience on NT clusters.

install NT to both nodes then use the cluster admin tools to configure your failover groups.

SB,

Is this NT4 or Windows 2000?

There is some good info on TechNet - just search for "cluster".

One thing to watch out for is the private network link. If you use a (simple) crossover cable, booting one node with other other switched off (to avoid storage corruption) may cause NT to think that the NIC has failed. There is a registry hack (again on TechNet) to get around it, or use a hub to keep the network cable powered up.
