Question

Another attempt to tun my PC into a stable games platform...

Just wondered if anyone has experience of installing W95/98 as a dual boot onto a W2000 system?

I've got four partitions setup on my Maxtor HD, all FAT32.

Any tips? Or am I opening a family size can 'o worms?

Thanks in advance....

*Think* this should be possible

Win98 will have to be in the first partition. If Win2K files are in that partiiton already it should still be OK so long as they not in the "windows" directory - should be "winnt".

Copy win98 setup files from the CD to a directoy on the 1st partition. Boot from a win98 floppy. from the floppy do a "sys c:" to make the system boot '98 (at this point you temporarily lose ability to boot into win2K). Install (run "setup") from the Win98 install directory. (much quicker than from CD). When 98 is all installed, boot from the Win2k Boot floppies. I beleive the repair option should resinatll the Win2K "bootldr" into the boot sector and create the dual boot menu.

Alternatively something like Partition/Boot Magic should sort out the different boot options.

I don't think I've gone from Win2K to Win2k/Win98 directly. Anyone confirm if the repair option will create the Win2k bootldr setup ?

Yup i was running them both for a while both installed into one partion and no problems what so ever, bar the fact 2k doesn't like some software.

When having a Win98/WIN2K dualboot pc, Win98 HAS to be installed first. When installing Win2K the setup prog will tell you what drives/OS/partitions & file systems you have & give installation options, NTFS or FAT32 and the like...
default:
win98 windows
Win2K winnt
