Jason, you cannot short stock as a retail investor.
Only way to do it is to set up a CFD account, the adverts in the back of the ft show you which companies do this.
HOWEVER i couldn't warn you off doing this enough.

Jason, CFD's usually employ leverage, so by the same token, a 1k short could quite easily lose 5/6k with a relatively small stock move.
You would have to pay for stop losses in the spread they quote you, hence stock needs to move even further before you are in profit. (also in fast markets , stop losses arent guaranteed)
most people that do this usually end up wishing they hadnt at some stage, it really isn't easy making money p.a trading...

Cheers Merkin.
My boss is shorting 3 different stocks at the moment via his broker in NY and today alone he has made $950 profit and it have a sliding cap so if it goes up the stock automaticlly sells.
He make a fecking fortune off it. Only a £5K investment.
All I want to do is copy the advise his broker gives and I am only gonna short about £1K
