Just got this by email, will try to translate:
Dial *#06# on your mobile, and carefully note the 15 (digit?) code that appears. If your phone is stolen, tell your operator and they can totally block the phone, new sim card or not, making it utterly useless. If everyone did this, there would be no mobile phone theft.
True or myth? Am curious.

Yes, it's true. I believe it may be possible to re-program a phone's serial number, but I'm not 100% sure on that. You're right - more people should note and report their #serial for use when stolen.

The number you're referring to is the IMEI number of the phone - and yes, it's possible to block a phone with that number.
Unfortunately, it's possible to reprogram a phone's IMEI number, so blocking that number is merely inconvenient.
