Sounds like a 740 BMW with a 4.4 V8 to be honest

urrgh! well he did always have dodgy taste in cars.

You sure the M5 doesn't have a v8 ? An M5 is a decent motor, but a 740?? Whats he ON !?

Talking

V8 M5 should be quicker to 60 than 6.5.

But only a V8 in latest model.

Sounds like 5/7 series BM...or possibly E class AMG Merc or a V8 S Class??

Or what about one of the V8 Jags? Think they are limited to 155 like the Germans.

Last thought - Audi A8 ???

What about one of the Holder GTS/GTR (whatever) type cars?

They use Chevy V8 (I think) pretty rapid, and would guess limited to 155mph, plus they are four door.

nice cars, and pretty rare.

Has to be German or a Jag
6.5 to 60 sounds slowish for anything recent
New M5's have V8 (400 BHP), so should be a touch under 6.5
Large 7 series or Audi A8 sound most likely

Mate's just bought a car (2nd hand) and is feeding me clues as to what it is before he drives it up at the weekend.

V8 engine
engine limiter set at 155mph
245 tyres
4 door
0-60 in 6.5 secs

Any ideas anyone ? I thought it might be an M5 but I don't think these have V8's ?

Anyway, looking forward to a good thrash in it.

I'd go for a big ol' jag.

You know, the type that Clarkson tested at Millbrook against Tiff in the M5.

Thanks lads - my money is on a BMW 540.

I thought I'd persuaded him to get something he could get his teeth into like a STI V or EVO V, but he's obviously plumped for the leather armchair on wheels (he spends most of his life on the motorway)

Holdens are not electronically limited - well the current ones aren't.

All German cars (except Porsche) are electronically limited to 155mph (250kmh) if they can go that fast.

Cool

BMW 540i has 235 tyres and is 6.4 secs 0-62

Mercedes E430 has 245 tyres and is 6.6 secs 0-62

So the E430 seems like a more likely candidate.

AWD,

Like I said, he's coming up at the weekend - he won't divulge til then.

I hope he doesn't think he's gonna park that German tank on my drive!

Answer - Lexus

And very nice it is too. Sat nav, electronic everything. Smashing car, especially for clocking up lots of motorway miles.

Not sure about the 155mph bit, but it was a LOVELY drive. Its as smooth as any Merc or Jag I've driven.

If its an LS400 it should do the 155.
Quentin Wilson likes 'em. Says they make a very good 2nd hand investment too.
