Portable air con unit hire / purchase??
#2
Hi All
I'm looking for some kind of air conditioning unit that I can stick in the office.
Does such a thing exist, or do you need a fully fitted system?
If so, are they any good? Any ideas where I could hire / buy one from?
Cheers

Hi Simon.
You can get portable air con units from some DIY stores. Alternatively, just have a look in the Yellow Pages.
We tried a couple of portable units for our upstairs offices from the people who put in the fixed air-con into our server room. Lots of noise and not much difference IMO for the portable units.
A good air-con company will probably let you have one on trial for a couple of weeks.

Thanks Chris
When you say "Lots of noise and not much difference IMO for the portable units"... do you mean that the portable units make loads of noise and don't cool the room?
Cheers mate

Spot on (IMO again). We tried two different models and neither seemed to cool the room like the fixed units we've got.
Get somebody local to loan you one for a week and see what you think.
Chris.

This has come on a day when I've been through hell....
Was called into work this morning.. Server down, Got there, The Server room is at 90 degrees +, No Air Con all sunday, all the newer servers had shut themselves off, but some of the older ones ahd thrown wobblys:d.
After a severe ear bashing the Air Con people brought down some portable Toshiba Units... I have to say.. these were excellent. This Morning, i couldn't stay in the room for more than a couple of mins, but tonite when i left it wasn't much hotter than usual!
36 Servers and 2 x Toshiba Portable Air Con
Cheers
