unfortunately i cannot make tomorrow cos i am involved in a theatrical epic this week - 2nites my only nite off til sunday.

Having probs connecting on CS, but will get it sorted.

 

After trying to connect and being told I need a 22Mb download I didn't bother - I did'nt buy the retail facking CD only to be told 3 weeks later I need a fooking great patch just to keep playing it - BASTIDS!!!!

YEAH like we ALL have broadband access don't we......NOT!

 

Apologies Apologies - I know I should have slept on the frustration - But I went home thinking I fancy a game tonite, tried to connect at 7.45pm but it kicked me off saying I needed a later version.

I was just a little cross after looking forward to it especially when it was a 22mb download on a 56K modem at home - it would have been 10.30pm before I could play!

I will find a mag CD with the patch on - hopefully I will be cannon fodder for you all next week!!

p.s Do I need the HL *AND* CS patches or just the CS one?

i'm with BT - £15 and no call charges whatsoever 24/7

not a problem then leaving pc connected and downloading anything !

failing that keep an eye out on pc mag cover cd's for the patch.

i think its gr8 that companies are continually refining their products.

I had a laugh, but I must apologise and thank the better players for putting up with:

a) Having changed my graphics card which misled me into thinking the game was corrupted as I couldn't connect. As a last resort I tried Opengl mode to check out the graphics and connection worked better than ever. But by then it was nine o'clock.

b) Arsing about trying out a game pad. It is useless.

c) This being my first game after changing my keyboard setup and bound buttons and running about like a spare part.

d) Being such a crap shot.

e) Leon watching the football until gone nine o'clock and Phil "The Slayer" having problems so he had to use his dial up to connect to work, not getting on at all.

By the way Leon works with me and is a regular Scoobynet lurker, who watches too many films and who's real name is John. Sadly in this day and age, whilst he wanted an Impreza, fear of theft/vandalism cos he can't garage it put him off and so he has a new 1.8 turbo golf, which he is unwilling to bring to NM5 on Sunday.

Other than that I'll see you next week and u can check if I'm getting any better. Or we may be on Cs Tastic having a practice. I must get that ICQ thing sorted out tonight.

Dr Hu, I've got the patch on CD, and sombody else already offered to make a copy for anyone who couldn't face the download time. Let someone know your address if you want one before next week ( I have a CD burner).

I reckon just CS, because my HL patch is the wrong one and it never installed, but CS still works fine.

 

my understanding was you had to be uptodate with both CS and HL ?

As I understand it...

There are two versions of C/S - the full retail version which has its own dedicated half-life engine and the MOD version which piggy backs on a full copy of Half-Life.

If (like me) you bought the Current box version of Half Like/Counter strike/Opposing force - different CD for each, you have two options.

1)
Install C/S Retail CD
Install CS1001.exe (22mb) Retail Upgrade Patch
Install Missing Map Pack cs_mappack.exe (17mb) (cos they had to drop some maps from the retail version due to royalties issues or something)

This version has a dedicated copy of the half-life engine which is upgraded by the above patch all in one.

2)
Install the Half-Life Game only
Install Half-life Patch HL1106.exe (54Mb)
Install Ready Patched full mod version of C/S- csv11full.exe (87 Mb)

There is a third option if you had a previous (pre patch) version of the MOD game which is
Half-Life already installed
C/S Mod already installed
Install Half-Life Incremental Patch
Install C/S Mod Incremental Patch

I've done 1 and 2 Succesfully - You actually get a total of three WON ids in the box
