anybody got any decent ideas for personal protection tools? The kind that aren't illegal or anything..?

My girlfriend is a fraud officer visiting dodgy houses quite a lot, and I'd like her to have something a little more serious than a noise maker or something...

anybody have any suggestions? - thanks

I got my wife some wild pepper spray for her handbag. I ordered it off e-bay.com and it came OK.

I would rather she was prosocuted for using it then anything happen to her.

Above a mobile phone and a new pair of trainers you are pretty much stuck, as anything that is considered to be a weapon will be banned, ie cs gas, mace, pepper spray.

And the old 12-inch maglite suggestion is no good, not wishing to offend women here, but should your girlfriend try and hit out with a torch etc she is far more likely to have it ripped out out her hands and used to beat her.

Self-defence classes and some training on how to avoid dangerous situations, plannign escape routes etc etc will be a good start, but carry some form of weapon that she could safely use (note I said safely not legally) is only going to get her into further trouble with the police.

oh and not that you heard it here..but getting hold of some sweet and lo or other sweetner....makes very effective mace like substitute when ground intoma fine powder and thrown into an attackers face...as a last resort she could have some in her pocket or similar handy place...nothing illegal about sweetner...

oh and when I saw this used at a law enforcement seminar in the US..it put a guy down for around an hour...

TAZMAN -- I guess that's because when these sweeteners come into contact with water they fizz a lot. Not too nice having that going on in your eyeballs

Im in the same boat,trying to find some "Sprays"but the people in the states think they might get confiscated by customs

Pepper spray and CS are legal no-no's but if it was my partner i would have no worries in letting her carry one. It f**king sucks that the person defending themselves with such is more lilkely to get into deeper legal sh*t than the scum robbing them! only in the UK could this happen.

Maglite is a bit big, i keep a 6 Cell in the car and one at home and would not think twice about using it - I have it on good authority that maglites are not classed a offensive wepons so no probs callying one but not much use for most females.

Pepper spray, easy to get off the web, or if you're worried about the legal side, a spray tin of Raljex (sp) deep heat stuff.

but a trip to france y car may let you carry small items back, cs gas, pepper spray, stun guns just dont get caught
